CUBA, May 19, 2009. The 3rd National Encounter of Solidarity with the Cuban People and Government was held on Monday in Honduras with the participation of members of social organizations from this and other Central American countries.
The event included a march with the presence of students, women and social and political activists who took to the streets in the coastal locality of La Ceiba carrying flags and chanting slogans in support of the Cuban Revolution.
The rally was presided over by executives of the Honduras-Cuba Friendship Association; the Cuban Ambassador in Honduras, Juan Carlos Hernandez; the Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Department at the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), Jose Prieto; and Gladys Paez, another ICAP official.
Participants in the event condemned the almost 50-year-old economic, trade and financial US blockade of Cuba and demanded the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.
They also discussed topics such as the importance of international solidarity and the impact of regional cooperation.
