Solidarity with Cuba on the Rise in Latin America

CUBA, August 23, 2010.- The 10th Congress of the Bolivian Solidarity-with-Cuba Movement (MBSC) will be held in the city of Oruro on October 2 and 3.

The forum will have, among its main themes, the struggle for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists unfairly imprisoned in the United States since1998 and the defense of the Cuban Revolution in the face of the media war, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.

The source adds that delegates will also focus on tasks for the ideological training of the various movements and the support for internationalist brigades of health and education, as well as social workers.

They will also condemn the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by Washington for over five decades now.

The new leadership of the MBSC will be elected during the event, to be held at the Oruro Culture Center, and activities in solidarity with other Latin American peoples will be carried out. Likewise, the venue of the next congress will be defined.

This work is also sponsored by the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples and the embassy in La Paz.

On the other hand, the 11th National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in Panama will take place from October 5th through the 17th in the province of Herrera, according to information provided to the Prensa Latina news agency by the National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba in that country.

It was agreed to support, during the meeting, a proposal made by the Panamanian Youth movement to climb the Baruu Volcano on October 10, where a plaque and a flag will be placed as part of the international campaign for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in US jails.

The initiative is led by youngsters of the Revolutionary Democratic Party (PRD) and by the Popular Youth Movement (MJP), following a commitment made in a regional forum recently carried out in Managua (Nicaragua).

The Baruu Volcano, located in the district of Bugaba in the province of Chiriquí, is the country’s highest point, with 3,475 meters above sea level.
