Cuban Movement for Peace Condemns Moroccan Repression

CUBA, March 25, 2010. -  The Cuban Movement for the Peace and Sovereignty of the Peoples spoke out today against the Moroccan repression of the Saharan people and the double-standard policy maintain by the European Union.

The organization released a statement in Havana calling the International Community and regional and international bodies to raise their voices against Morocco for its constant violation of the most elemental rights of the Saharan people.

The International Community has witnessed the arrogance and disdain of the Kingdom of Morocco towards the rights of the Saharan people, after the violent repression of Saharan demonstrators last March 8 in the cities of Al Aiun and Dajla in the occupied Western Sahara, reads the document.

Participants in the pacific protest demanded occupying forces to respect the Human Rights in those territories, the declaration added.

“It is time for institutions such as the European Union to stop their double-standard policy and to act in consequence with the principles and values they boast to defend.”

In that respect, the Cuban organization says the world is still waiting for a statement from the EU about the Saharan activist, Aminatu Haidar, who has been on a hunger strike for 32 days demanding the respect of the rights of her occupied and repressed people.

What does the EU has to say about this unacceptable outrage to the human rights of an international renowned activist? What does the EU has to say about the constant violations of the most elemental human rights of the Saharan people?, the Cuban organization wondered. (Cubaminrex - acn)
