Latin American Solidarity Groups Highlight Importance of Cuban Revolution
CUBA, August 9TH, 2010.- Members of the 17th Solidarity-with-Cuba Latin American and Caribbean Brigade stressed Monday in central Sancti Spiritus province, the importance of the Cuban Revolution for the region.
Luz Helena Bernal, coordinator of the group in Colombia, which is made up of 19 members, told reporters that until a few years ago, Cuba was the only beacon of hope for the continent. She added that nations such as Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia, are now following suit.
The Colombian activist said that media outlets in her country distorted the reality of life on the island and noted that members of the Solidarity-with-Cuba group based in Cali are responsible for spreading the principles of solidarity and humanity of the Cuban people.
An official with the Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Yamil Martinez Marrrero, said that the brigade has delegates from 10 nations, including Ecuador, Martinique, Colombia, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.
