Sri Lanka Nat'l Committee for Solidarity with Cuba Condemns Acquittal of Terrorist Posada Carriles.
SRI LANKA, April 12, 2011.- The Sri Lanka National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba condemns the release of international terrorist Louis Posada Carriles after a sham trial in El Paso, Texas, United States of America.
Posada Carriles is a known terrorist who has confessed to a series of terrorist crimes including the bombing of a Cuban civilian plane in mid-air with 73 people on board. Besides governments in Cuba and Venezuela have volumes of evidence to try him for criminal activities. The trial itself exposed evidence of his crimes. In such a situation the verdict is not only a mockery of justice but a denial of the fundamental rights of the victims of his terrorist actions.
This single act gives the lie to the claims of the United States and its President that the United States is a champion of human rights and justice.
We urgently call upon the United States authorities to appeal against this unjust verdict and also to institute a fresh trial against Posada Carriles charging him for his terrorist actions including mass murder.
We call upon all people who stand for justice and fair play to raise their voice against this travesty of justice.
We also call upon the United States, especially its President Barack Obama to release unconditionally the five Cuban heroes unjustly incarcerated and suffering for over 12 years in the United States for fighting terrorism. (Cubaminrex-EmbaCuba Sri Lanka)
