Uruguayan Newspaper Criticizes Posada Carriles Acquittal

URUGUAY, April 10, 2011.- Under the headline "Impunity for a Terrorist," Uruguayan newspaper La Juventud ran an editorial on Sunday condemning the decision of a U.S. court to acquit notorious terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.

The editorial said the ruling made it clear that this terrorist, with a notorious international record, had been sheltered by the U.S. justice system.

La Juventud pointed out that impunity is a worldwide phenomenon at a time when imperialist arrogance, open and covert war, and attacks are a favorite part of the policy followed by the U.S. government and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

La Juventud said it was not surprised by the liberation of Posada Carriles, but that as an irresponsible and unjust act, it must be condemned, and people informed of the real nature of U.S. imperialism.

In a Foreign Ministry statement on Saturday, Cuba called upon the U.S. government to rectify the farce of that acquittal.

The trial of the former CIA agent on immigration charges instead of terrorism is an insult to the people of Cuba and the families affected by the terrorist’s actions, the press release said. (Cubaminrex-PL)
