A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition Launches Campaign to End US Blockade of Cuba

CUBA, November 10, 2008. The U.S based organization ANSWER Coalition called upon the outgoing Bush administration and the incoming Obama administration to take action to end the economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba.

The organization’s announcement, which was sent to this agency via email, says two months ago, following hurricanes Gustav and Ike, more than 35,000 letters were sent to the White House and Congress calling for an end to the blockade and embargo.

The announcement mentions the damage caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike two months ago and noted that such damage now adds to that caused by a third major hurricane, Paloma. “There is no damage estimate yet for the latest storm, but massive damage is reported along Cuba’s southern coast and in the central and eastern provinces,” says the note.

It also makes reference to the Cuban recent victory at the United Nations when the organization adopted a resolution that called for the end of the blockade.

Formed in the wake of the September 11th attacks, ANSWER has since helped to organize many of the largest anti-war demonstrations in the United States, including demonstrations of hundreds of thousands against the Iraq War.

The group has also organized activities around a variety of other issues, ranging from Palestinians to immigrant rights to Social Security to the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles, the case of the five Cuban antiterrorists imprisoned in the US and Washington’s blockade against the island.
