Statement by Director a.i for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Elio Rodríguez Perdomo, in relation with recent declarations on Cuba by the European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton

We have known  through the press on the unfortunate declarations in relation to our country issued to a journalist in Geneva from the O Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper by Mrs. Catherine Ashton, European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Policy.

We strongly regret such declarations which constitute a new interference in the domestic affairs of Cuba. Mrs. Ashton meddles in issues that only concern to Cubans.

We reiterate to the European Union that Cuba does not recognize any moral or political authority to the European Union to criticize the Island on human rights and we urge the bloc to take care of the serious problems affecting it like the Euro crisis, the anti-inmigrant policy, the violent repression against demonstrators  and the increasing social exclusion of their employees and less favoured sectors.
