Committees in Defense of the Revolution Reject Inclusion of Cuba on Terror List

CUBA, Jan 18, 2010 -- The Cuban Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDRs) published a declaration on Friday rejecting the inclusion of Cuba on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism.

In the statement, published Saturday in the Granma news daily, the National Secretariat of the CDRs affirms that all of its members, over eight million, condemn this new isolation maneuver that aims at justifying Washington’s almost 50-year-old financial, commercial and trade blockade of the Caribbean nation.

The document supports a recent declaration by the Cuban Foreign Office that describes the measure as unjust, arbitrary and politically motivated. It also demands the immediate removal of Cuba from the list.

The CDR declaration also recalls that, for many years, Cuba has been a victim of terrorist actions organized in and carried out from US territory with the approval and support of the White House.

In addition, the text recalls that President Barack Obama, during his presidential campaign, promised to change the US Government policy toward the island but, until now, he has not implemented any significant changes. (Cubaminrex - RHC-ACN)
