Communist Youths Reaffirm Cuba Is Not a Terrorist Country

CUBA, Jan 19, 2010. - Members of the Young Communist League (UJC) in this eastern province of Cuba spoke out against the inclusion of the island nation in the US list of state sponsors of terrorism.
As oppose to the arguments used by the United States to accuse Cuba of terrorism, the island nation is known for fighting the scourge, Madelay de la Torre said.

This is a pro-solidarity country that has suffered the consequences of acts of terrorism and it is now facing the injustice of having five Cubans held in US prisons for monitoring criminal anti-Cuban organizations financed by the American government, the young woman added.

Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez were unfairly condemned after being arrested 11 years ago when they were monitoring terrorist activities by Florida-based anti-Cuba groups. The criminal actions planned and executed by those organizations have caused thousands of dead, injured and mutilated, as well as millionaire damages to the Cuban economy.

Another UJC member, Ermis Rojas, told ACN that including Cuba on their list of terrorist countries was an arbitrary measure taken by the U.S. State Department as Cuba does nothing but to show to the world its commitment with the rest of nations by leading collaboration programs in sectors like health and sports.

He mentioned as one of the most recent examples of this solidarity the more than 400 Cuban doctors currently working in Haiti and assisting its people after a 7.0 earthquake struck that country.

The two youngsters made their statements in a UJC district assembly summoned to discuss how to improve the ideological and political efforts of the organization and the work of the grassroots organizations. (Cubaminrex - acn)
