U.S Targets Young Artists to Destabilize Cuba.

By Cosette Pérez
CUBA, March 15, 2011.- In a televised documentary featuring evidence submitted by a young artist who became a State Security agent, Cuba on Monday denounced U.S. attempts to create a cultural center to help destabilize the country.

In the documentary, Frank Carlos Vasquez, a visual artist, told how he was hired and recruited by officials of the U.S Interests Section in Havana with promises to promote his cultural project.

The documentary, part of the serie "Las razones de Cuba" (Cuba's Reasons), tells how Vasquez was visited by USINT officers, who arranged a trip for him to the United States to meet with politicians and representatives of organizations apparently interesting in supporting his cultural project.

"I met with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and different Latino and African-American congress members, and from them I learned how the U.S political mechanism works," Vasquez said.

His recruitment was primarily aimed at drawing close to the Independent Cultural Center a group of young artists who needed promotion, and at the same time, be able to influence their work and ideas, as explained by Vasquez, now identified as agent Robin of Cuban State Security .

In the documentary, journalist Jean-Guy Allard explains how the CIA sees its role as creating the illusion of a popular movement that wins foreign support and establishes a favorable climate for provocative acts leading to open action on the Island.

U.S. agents tried to buy off Cuban artists and intellectuals by offering them exhibitions and promotions in U.S. galleries in exchange for depicting a discordant or distorted view of Cuba. (Cubaminrex-PL)
