CUBA, May 16, 2011.- In an interview granted to the Cuban web site Cubadebate, retired U.S. newscaster Dan Rather says that U.S. President Barack Obama should change his policies related to the wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as Washington's blockade against Cuba.
Speaking with Cuban television journalist Irma Shelton by phone, Dan Rather said the reports of Osama Bin Laden's death gives the U.S. president the opportunity to re-evaluate the situation in the region and make changes in Washington's policies, including the reduction of U.S. military troops in Afghanistan.
The experienced U.S. newscaster with the TV network CBS said that he would be surprised if Obama did not announce major changes in U.S. policies.
Dan Rather was also asked his opinion about Washington's policies toward Cuba. He said that the 50-year-old policy has been a failure, in that the fundamental idea was to effect a regime change on the island. The U.S. newscaster said that the policy has also failed to isolate Cuba from the rest of the world. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
