More Voices Demand Lifting of U.S. Blockade against Cuba.

CUBA, May 12, 2011.- U.S. reverend Jesse Jackson and Bolivians graduated in Cuba demanded the lifting of Washington’s almost-fifty-year-old economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Caribbean island.

Jackson told Prensa Latina news agency from Doha, Qatar, that the U.S. blockade against Cuba is an obsolete policy and hoped for the re-establishment of bilateral relations for the sake of mutual benefits for both countries.

He said that Cuba is a sovereign State, and full member of the United Nations General Assembly ––which has condemned Washington’s policy–– and of the international community.

The American reverend, who is an outstanding activist for civil rights, took part in the 11th Forum of Doha, the most important event for intellectual debate in the Persian Gulf and the Arab world.

According to the website of Radio Rebelde, the 11th Forum of Doha, held from Monday through Wednesday, was an opportunity to discuss present concerns on the immediate future of the Middle East and to recommend boosting political and economic reforms.

In the meantime, Bolivian former students in Cuba made a declaration urging Latin American youths that studied in the island to support Cuba’s struggle against the U.S. blockade and for the cause of the five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

The document demands U.S. president Barack Obama to release Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez ––internationally known as the Cuban Five––, who are victims of constant violations of basic human rights, Prensa Latina news agency reported.
