Cuba Cooperates in Trial Against Luis Posada Carriles.
CUBA, February 8th, 2011.- Two Cuban police officers and a doctor will testify today in the trial against terrorist Luis Posada Carriles for lying to immigration authorities in the United States. The three Cuban individuals to testify investigated the terrorist attempts against tourist sites in Havana in 1997, in which Italian tourist Fabio Di Celmo died in Hotel Copacabana.
The Cuban government turned over four files of evidence to the U.S. court, which will be presented during this trial. The evidence shows the material of the bombs, confessions and declarations of witnesses and suspects, and telephone calls between Cuban authorities and those that participated in the terrorist acts.
In an interview published in the New York Times in 1998, Posada Carriles admitted to his role in the crime against the hotel, and his objective as damaging tourism in Cuba. However, when being interviewed by an immigration judge in the U.S. in 2005, Posada Carriles denied what he had previously admitted. (Cubaminrex - RHC)
