Judge Disallows Fax Linking Posada Carriles to Hotel Bombings in Cuba.

EE.UU., March 10, 2011.- The jury in the trial against terrorist and former CIA agent Luis Posada Carriles will not be able to see a fax that prosecuting attorneys say links him with hotel bombings in Cuba in 1997, as decided Wednesday by the judge handling the case.

Federal Judge Kathleen Cardone ruled that there is insufficient evidence linking Posada Carriles to the fax, received in Guatemala in 1997.

Prosecutors say the document shows that Posada was negotiating payment for the bombings.

Posada Carriles is accused of lying to immigration authorities on entering the United States and of concealing his alleged involvement in attacks that left one Italian tourist dead.

Also on Wednesday, Cuban-American engineer Antonio Alvarez said he met Posada Carriles in 1997 during the opening of an office in Guatemala for a Florida energy company.

Alvarez said that the fax sent to his office had a pen name that Posada Carriles used to use.

Prosecutors said Alvarez’s testimony against the former CIA agent shows that Posada Carriles was involved in the 1997attacks.
