CUBA, August 15, 2007.- The number of sightless writers who are members to the amateur movement of the National Association for the Blind in Cuba has increased to nearly 800 over the last few years. The increase is in line with the opportunities offered to people with visual impairments by the Cuban Revolution, which includes the opening of over a hundred of libraries and reading centers geared to this population throughout the island. The blind Cuban writers are organized in 101 workshops, where they gather to discuss and choose the works to compete in literary competitions. The leading provinces in the promotion of such cultural activities are Havana, Holguin, Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba and Camaguey. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
