CUBA, Mar 8, 2007.- While in many parts of the world women are victims of wars, inequalities, starvation, preventable disease, racism and xenophobia, Cuban women fully participate in all social spheres. The struggle against sex discrimination and for women s advancement after the triumph of the Revolution has allowed Cuban women to become 66.6 percent of the country s professionals and technicians, 48.9 percent of researchers and 63.3 of university graduates. Cuban women currently have a strong influence in the nation s economy and their incorporation into labor includes 46 percent of the island s state labor force. About 56 percent of them are physicians, 70.1 percent are teachers, 71 are attorneys and 60.3 percent are judges in the country s courts. In the political field, 36 percent are parliamentarians, making Cuba the seventh country of the planet in number of deputies. Cuban women actively participate in cooperation projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America, representing 52.3 percent of collaborators in that sector. (Cubaminrex-PL)
