Brazil´s Workers Party Backs Cuba

BRAZIL, December 12, 2008. Brazil´s Workers Party (PT) has reiterated its friendship and solidarity with the Cuban people, its government and Communist Party.

The party´s National Executive Commission issued a statement on the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, acknowledging it as a process that marked and is still marking a path in Brazil, Latin American and the world.

The text recalls that the Revolution´s 50th anniversary will be celebrated January 1 worldwide with thousands of activities.

The Cuban Revolution has been attacked daily by the US government throughout five decades, the PT's also denounced.

It said US President-Elect Barack Obama has the responsibility and duty of changing relations with the island state, by lifting the blockade, releasing the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in American prisons, and dismantling the Guantanamo Bay prison in the illegally-occupied Cuban territory.

Cuba is well-known for giving top priority to health and education, for its solidarity, dignity and perseverance, which are reasons enough to have won the support of progressive and left-wing governments.

"Whatever the trial of each aspect of life and the history of the Socialist Cuba, the revolutionary action whose roots back to 19th century, the struggle against the Spanish occupation and the US interference may have been, the island deserve our respect and admiration," states the resolution.( Cubaminrex- PL)
