This is one example out of many surgeries performed by Cuban specialists of the Milagro Project

Operation Miracle in Suriname began on October 10, 2005 and more than 5,000 Surinamese patients have since been operated, among them children.

The present team who is in Suriname since June this year, has checked 2,847 patients, of which 2,398 were optometrical check ups; the team performed 531 surgeries of which 269 were for cataract, 187 for Pterigium, 4 for glaucoma, and 71 for other eye afflictions.

Doctor Diana González Poveda, head of the Ophthalmological Brigade, stated that the operated boy felt very happy after the surgery and was surprised to see the world he did not know before.
