Suriname. November 19, 2008. Marlène Lie A Ling, artistic director of Marlène’s Ballet Company, and a delegation visited Cuba for the 21st International Havana Ballet Festival which was held from October 24 to November 7. She described the Festival as a “magical event” and said that it was an exceptional and informative experience. The Surinamese delegation attended several performances during the Festival such as Giselle and Romancero Gitano. The delegation participated in courses conducted by Martha García and Loipa Araujo, the famous prima ballerinas of the classical ballet of Cuba. A meeting with Cuba’s Prima Ballerina Assoluta, the legendary Alicia Alonso, was an honorable and moving personal moment for Marlène. Lie A Ling visited the National Ballet of Cuba and had talks with its director, Mirian Vila. She also visited the Compañía de Danza Contemporánea de Cuba and Cojunto Folklórico Nacional and met with their directors. All these meetings have resulted in plans for cooperation with Cuba on projects that will soon start in Suriname. |
